Why Almond Tree

A Miami Security Guard Company Run By Former Police Command

Most security companies sell you a uniform. What actually determines whether a guard program works is who writes the post orders behind it, and whether anyone reads the reports afterward. Almond Tree was founded by a former Chief of Police and is led by a 35-year police veteran, and every coverage plan we produce is built by people who spent their careers responding to the incidents you are trying to prevent.

We operate out of Homestead, which means our officers live in the communities they cover rather than commuting in from a regional depot. It is also why we can commit to a two-hour response and a four-hour deployment across Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe County, including nights, weekends and emergencies where another provider has failed to show.

Every officer we place holds a Florida Class D license, adds a Class G firearms license where the post is armed, completes forty hours of field training alongside an experienced officer before working independently, and refreshes de-escalation training annually. You get written daily activity reports, incident documentation with photographs and timestamps, and a supervisor line that reaches a decision-maker instead of a national call centre.

On The Property

What Our Security Guards Do On Every Shift

A security guard in Florida controls who enters a property, patrols it on a randomised schedule, deters theft and vandalism through visible presence, responds first to incidents, and documents every shift in writing. Licensed officers may also detain a person suspected of committing a crime on the property until law enforcement arrives, or escort trespassers off with a formal warning.

Access Control

Verifying and logging staff, visitors, vendors and deliveries at every entry point.

Patrol Rounds

Randomised interior and exterior checkpoints so no pattern can be learned.

Visible Deterrence

A uniformed officer stops most incidents before they ever start.

Incident Response

First on scene for alarms, medical events and disturbances, with immediate 911 contact.

De-escalation

Handling disputes, difficult visitors and employee terminations calmly.

Opening & Closing

Securing doors, gates, alarms and lighting at the start and end of business.

Staff Escort

Walking employees to vehicles after dark and covering cash handling runs.

Written Reporting

Daily logs and incident reports that hold up for insurance and police.

Vehicle & Parking

Lot enforcement, vehicle logging and towing coordination where authorised.

Hazard Reporting

Broken lighting, propped doors and damaged fencing flagged before they cost you.

On The Night

Armed Or Unarmed? How To Choose

The honest answer is that most properties do not need armed officers, and some absolutely do. We give you a straight recommendation during the walkthrough based on your actual risk, never on which option bills higher.

OPTION 01

Unarmed Guards

Unarmed officers hold a Florida Class D license and are the standard choice across South Florida. They provide the two things that actually prevent incidents on most properties: a visible uniformed presence and disciplined control of who gets in. They are also more approachable, which matters a great deal anywhere you are serving guests, patients or residents who live there.

Right For

Offices and business parks, retail centres, HOAs and gated communities, condominiums, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, events and construction sites.

OPTION 01

Armed Guards

Armed officers hold a Class G firearms license in addition to the Class D, and requalify on their firearm every year of the two-year license. They belong where the risk is genuine and documented rather than theoretical, and they carry a higher rate that reflects the licensing, the training burden and the liability. If your insurer or landlord specifically requires armed coverage, confirm your own policy does not exclude armed operations before you sign anything.

Right For
Cash handling and transport, dispensaries and cannabis facilities, jewellery and high-value inventory, isolated sites, and properties with a documented history of violent incidents.

Where We Work

Security Guards Across South Florida

We cover Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe County from a single Homestead operations base. Monroe is the market most companies quote from Miami and then fail to staff. We staff the Keys rather than dispatch to them, which matters most during evacuation season when US-1 is restricted and a community sits empty.

Questions

Hiring Security Guards In Miami

How much does it cost to hire a security guard in Miami?

Unarmed Class D officers start at roughly $28 per hour and armed Class G officers at roughly $34 per hour in Miami and South Florida. A single overnight post covering eight hours a night, seven nights a week, runs between $80,000 and $105,000 per year. Twenty-four-hour coverage of one post runs between $210,000 and $260,000. Your exact rate depends on shift timing, officer count, weekly hours and how quickly you need coverage.

An unarmed officer holds a Florida Class D license and provides visible deterrence, access control and incident response without a firearm. An armed officer holds a Class G firearms license in addition to the Class D, and is used where the risk profile justifies it, such as cash handling, dispensaries, high-value inventory or isolated properties. Most properties are well served by unarmed officers, and unarmed posts cost less.

Only officers holding a valid Florida Class G license may work armed. That license requires firearms instruction beyond the Class D curriculum, plus at least four hours of requalification during each year of the two-year license, for every firearm type and caliber carried. An officer holding only a Class D license cannot carry a firearm on duty. We verify both licenses before placing anyone on an armed post.

A licensed officer may detain an individual suspected of committing a crime on the property until law enforcement arrives, and may escort trespassers off the property with a formal warning. Officers control access, document incidents, respond to emergencies and serve as credible witnesses. They cannot make arrests the way sworn police do, cannot enforce criminal law, cannot ticket or tow vehicles on public roads, and cannot pursue a suspect off the property.

We respond to every request within two hours and deploy licensed officers within four hours anywhere in Miami-Dade, Broward or Monroe County, including nights, weekends and emergencies where a current provider has failed to show.

Yes. Almond Tree operates under Florida Security Agency License B 3500420 and is fully insured and bonded. Every officer holds a Florida Class D license, passes a state and federal background check, and completes a forty-hour field training program alongside an experienced officer plus annual de-escalation training. We are also certified by the State of Florida as a Veteran Preference company.
